Sweetgum tree, liquidambar styraciflua a native plant Leaves turn yellow-purple-red in the fall, and stay on the tree quite late. Height is 60'-70', with a 45' spread. Tough, adaptable, and beautiful, Sweetgum rivals most other trees for outstanding fall color. Give it plenty of room to grow in the landscape. The females will eventually develop the spiny burr-like fruit that is valuable for wildlife. It can tolerate wet feet.
